Making a Difference in 2021
December 22, 2020
The New Year is a great opportunity to make positive changes that will impact you, your family, and your community. There are lots of wonderful ways you can make a difference in 2021, and involve your children in being a positive force of change in your family and local community:
Take care of yourself. Schedule those doctors appointments that are overdue. Try to stay healthy by eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking water, and making time to exercise. In addition, make time to do things you love but never seem to have time for—read a new book, take up a new hobby, or catch up with an old friend.
Appreciate all that you have. With the hustle and bustle of every day life, we often forget to have gratitude for the many blessings we have in our lives. Say thank you more often, tell those closest to you how much they mean to you, reach out to family and friends that you don’t communicate with often, and never take things for granted.
Help those in need. There are many people who have been suffering because of the pandemic or other circumstances. You can make a difference in their lives by donating gently-used clothing and toys, preparing and delivering meals to the homeless, or simply helping a neighbor by shoveling snow, taking in their mail, or offering to run errands. A very simple gesture may make a huge difference in someone’s life.
Perform random acts of kindness. Small, everyday things such as holding the door for someone, saying “please” and “thank you” at the grocery store, giving someone a compliment, or baking cookies for an elderly neighbor are small acts that will brighten someone’s day, and hopefully encourage them to pay it forward.
Show your family how much they mean to you. Remind your loved ones how special they are by leaving them notes in random places, making their favorite snack, or other gestures that show you care.
